My sons and their friends were playing outside. They knocked on the door, full of excitement. “What’s this?” one of the boys asked. I smiled, amused that they knew they’d come to the right place for answers. “Oh. That’s a smoky quartz crystal”, I said. They were filled with smiles and energy as their hands were outstretched – each with beautiful earth crystals in their hands. “Where did you get those?” I asked. “We dug them up. Let’s get more.” they responded. They were experiencing the gifts of the Earth. I was happy for them. And this was also a time to share lessons I’ve learned from indigenous world cultures. The Earth is very powerful and so are those crystals. They can be used for different things. They have grown in the Earth for a very long time. Some people believe that because they’ve lived in the Earth, they have information, knowledge, and maybe even power, to share. We meditate with them. We put them in our homes because they’re so beautiful. But first, we must ask permission to take them from the Earth. You should have good intentions.
